HBO is getting ready to launch a new video streaming app that will allow users to access HBO content from Apple devices and HBO Go, according to an internal memo obtained by Bloomberg.
The memo, seen by Bloomberg, details the development of a new app that is expected to be launched later this year.
The HBO app will launch this fall and will include HBO Go and HBO Now.
The app will also include a new way to browse HBO content on Apple devices, the memo said.HBO has been a dominant player in the video streaming market since launching the streaming service in 2013, but has struggled to keep up with the growing popularity of streaming video on Apple platforms.
Its recent acquisition of Viacom is also drawing criticism, as it has tried to diversify away from a content distribution model that relies on HBO for revenue.
Hearing that HBO will be getting ready for its next major app launch will make it harder for competitors to catch up to HBO in the streaming video space.
