Amazon is making another move to expand its reach into Canada with the launch of a Canadian app store called Amazon Canada.
The Amazon Canada app store, which has been available in English and French since late July, has over 200 titles, including books, games and software.
Its pricing and other features are similar to those of its US online store.
The service has been priced at $6.99 for Canadian residents, but Amazon says it will soon launch in English.
The app store was created by a group of Canadian developers who have been building Amazon’s Canadian presence, which began with the purchase of a $1.6-billion retail campus in Vaughan in 2013.
The app store will launch with the addition of new Canadian retailers, Amazon said in a statement on Monday.
The new Canadian service will help Amazon expand its global reach by connecting Canadians with its growing catalogue of online products, including video, apparel, books, digital products and more.
“We are thrilled to partner with Amazon Canada to bring the Amazon Canada experience to Canadians and we look forward to helping our customers find the products they are looking for,” said Alexey Shchekalov, Amazon Canada’s vice-president of e-commerce and retail.
“Canada is one of the most dynamic markets for Amazon, and the Amazon Canadians app will help to bring that to life.”
